Fredericton Chamber Orchestra at the Playhouse March 21

The Fredericton Chamber Orchestra will be performing at the Fredericton Playhouse on March 21, 2015 at 3:00 pm.

Orchestral Selections – Dec. 7, 2014 Concert

Selections from the ballet Nutcracker by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893 will be performed by the Fredericton Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Heather Dunham. It was the last ballet that Tchaikovsky wrote, a fairy tale ballet centered on a family’s Christmas Eve celebration. It has become a classic for the Christmas season. The selections include the Overture Miniature, Danse Chinoise, Danse des Mirlitons, Danse de la Fée-Dragée, and Danse Russe Trepak.

From Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons the violin concerto in F minor depicting Winter will be performed by the string section with soloist Nadia Francavilla. This unusual concerto in three movements from the early Baroque is almost a farcically description of shivering cold, horrid winds, teeth chattering and foot stomping to keep warm in the first movement. The slow contrasting second movement shows a poet going to his fireside sitting contentedly while outside the rain wets hundreds of unfortunates. The third movement is as wildly descriptive as the first: walking carefully on ice, the falling with the ice breaking. Soon the south wind induces a thaw, briefly reminding us of summer, but then the “winds in conflict” return to end this remarkable concerto.

Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson has become a Christmas standard. Composed in 1948, it was first recorded in 1949 by Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops, and in 1950 lyrics were added by Mitchell Parish.

"Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!", also known as "Let It Snow", is a song written by lyricist Sammy Cahn and composer Jule Styne in July 1945. It was written in Hollywood, California during a heat wave as Cahn and Styne imagined cooler conditions. Numerous popular singers have made the song famous over the years.

Summer Solstice: Celebrating Young Talent

We are pleased to invite you to our summer concert, entitled "Summer Solstice: Celebrating Young Talent". 

For this event we will be celebrating young Fredericton musicians Sung-Ho (David) Kwon and Thomas Nicholson, both of whom were Senior Award of Excellence winners at the 2013 Fredericton Music Festival! 

David will perform as soloist for the Clarinet Concerto by J. Stamitz, while Thomas has composed a brand new piece in the neo-classical style titled Tombeau de souvenirs. Don't miss the world premiere!

The concert will take place on Saturday, June 21st at 7:00pm at Christ Church Cathedral. Tickets are availble at Reads Newsstand, from orchestra members, and at the door. $20 adults / $15 seniors / $10 students / Free for children 12 and under.

A beautiful evening for a concert

The Fredericton Chamber Orchestra performed a concert in Officers Square on July 3rd. The weather was perfect. A member of the Fredericton Photographic Society was on hand to captures some nice shots. Here are a few of Roy Crawford's photographs. Click on any image for a larger view.

Messiah Performances a Great Success

The Fredericton Chamber Orchestra accompanied recent performances of Handel's Messiah performed by the Fredericton Choral Society, the Sussex Choral Society, the Bethany Singers, soloists Sarah Hallyburton - soprano, Andrew Pickett - counter tenor, Owen McCausland - tenor, David Mitchell - bass. The orchestra and choirs, under the direction of Björn Runefors, performed for a capacity audience at the Saunders-Irving Chapel in Sussex on December 10, 2011, and at Sunset Church in Fredericton, on December 11, 2011. Over 1200 people came to hear the two performances.
